Frozen Paint!

ICE CUBE PAINT

This is a fun art activity that also teaches the kids about the water cycle.  We pretended the paint (simple tempura paint) was rain as we poured it in to the ice cube trays.  Then we stuck short popsicle sticks in it and put it in the freezer.  We talked about how when the water gets cold enough it will freeze.  The next day we took out the paint in the ice cube tray and of course it was hard and frozen.  They easily came out so the kids could paint with them.  We were talking about the letter O so I drew Oo on the paper and let them color it in with the paint cubes.

Here are some of the finished paint cubes...

The kids liked the feel of the cold cube of paint...

If they pressed lightly they found the paint didn't "melt" and come off on the paper as easily.  When the moved the paint cube around alot and caused alot of friction on the paper, they found the paint started to "melt" and the paint came out darker on the page.
