INSTANT EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

This page will have lots of quick and easy little educational activities to do with your child at your home or on the road.  A great way to spend a fun time together while knowing your child is learning something as well.

I'll add new posts as often as possible, so if you have a minute with your child and are looking for something to do, keep checking this page for new ideas!

More ideas:

* When out driving help your child look for things that start with a certain letter of the alphabet.

* Have your child sort the laundry (dirty or clean) by the kind of clothing item, color, etc.

* Let your child set the table to practice one to one correspondence (give them more items than are needed).

* Have your child go around the house hunting for items of a certain color.  When they are done collecting, help them count out the items that they found.

* Create an original bedtime story for your child.  Every time you tell it to them use a whispering voice to make it special.  Let your child add on to your story or make up one of their own.

* Say a number and have your child continue counting up from it.  Variation: have your child count backwards from the number.

* Home made obstacle course (gross motor skills) - using any items around your house set up an obstacle course for your child. Have them jump over, crawl under, count to a certain number before moving on, etc.  Set it up inside or outside and let your child go to it!

*Turn on some lively instrumental music.  As it plays ask your child to clap their hands 10 times, or march in place 20 times.  Count out loud as they follow directions.

Have your child walk through the house and look for patterns (stripes on a shirt, items on wallpaper, etc.).  Have them copy the pattern on a piece of paper.

*Put out junk items (paper clips, pennies, twist ties, etc.) and start a pattern; two pennies, one twist ite, two pennies, etc.  Have your child continue the pattern and then think of one s on their own.

*Have your child create a movement pattern with their body!  For example; jump, clap hands, touch nose, jump, clap hands, touch nose.  Copy the pattern and help them verbalize it.  Then try a new pattern or add to the original.

*While you are out driving, count the number of certain color cars you see while out driving.
